Book Cover
In my typography class, we were told to remake a cover for a book of our choice. My choice of book was Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. This was a book from my childhood that I enjoyed reading because as a kid
Inspiration
Whether I misplaced it or borrowed it and gave it back, I couldn't find my copy of The Lightning Thief to help me with my project. So I had to resort to the internet to find inspiration for the book cover.
Getting Started
The idea of the cover was simple. A black background with and ocean background. However, this alone would be boring, so I decided to make it more interesting.
Enhancing the Background
For the cover, I decided to make a trident that looked like it was made of water. This is a nod to how Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon and like his father, he can manipulate water into whatever he wants. On the back of the book is a lightning bolt. In the book, Zeus’s master bolt has gone missing and it turns out it was behind Percy’s shield. Now it’s behind the book and I decided to have it fade out towards the top. The spine has the title of the franchise and the book’s number in the series.
Adding Words
The last thing to do was adding words. The series name was done using Trajan Color to give it an ancient Greek feel. The Lightning Thief and the book’s description was done with Baskerville regular to compliment the Trajan Color. I used bright colors to have them stand out from the dark background. The name of the author was done in Acumin Variable Concept. And to top it off, I put the… QR code?
